The Tartans of the Clan Akins
The oldest of the three Akins tartans is the pattern or "sett" worn as the Akins clan tartan. It is believed to date back to the 1820's and was registered with the Scottish Tartans Authority in 1996 and is recorded as tartan #2426 in The Register of Scottish Tartans.
The red Akins dress tartan was designed using colors derived from the Akins coat of arms. It was registered in 1986 with the Scottish Tartans Society and is recorded as tartan #997 in The Scottish Register of Tartans
The Akins hunting tartan was designed by Scottish tartan scholar and historian Bob Martin in 2004 for his wife Janet Akins. It is recorded as tartan #6288 in the Scottish Register of Tartans.
